Restoration promises for Israel are followed by derision against Babylon that hauntingly metamorphosizes into an oracle against satan himself and then returns to Babylon. The chapter ends with oracles against Assyria and Philistia.

why trials? can’t we just be prosperous?

Like roots of trees that dig deeper during drought, so is our faith when we are subject to suffering.  Our faith is thus tested and grows beyond a superficial acceptance of the gospel.

Job 14: Job’s melancholy lament
