Isaiah 6: Holy, Holy, Holy

Isaiah witnesses the seraphim encircling the throne of the Almighty YHWH crying Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord… His lips are purified with a burning coal and his prophetic vocation is made manifest.

Everyone was made in the image of God!

It’s difficult to discern a Godly perspective.  However, we could do far worse than ignoring the bad and focusing on the good in everyone else while focusing on correcting the bad in ourselves.

Job 6: Job attempts to justify his complaint

Job insists that any impartial judge would declare him justified in his complaint. He longs for a fatal end to his misery as he rebukes his friends for tormenting him with unjust condemnation.

there but for the grace of God go I

Hypocritical judgmentalism is judging the value of others by their actions while ignoring the fact that your own actions would be worse still if not for the grace of God in your life.

Genesis 6: Corruption, Noah and deep water

A strange tale of Nephilim, sons of God, daughters of man and prevailing corruption is followed by the Introduction of Noah who is the leader of a floating remnant of man and beast.

Our value is in Christ

It never ceases to amaze how contradictory the secular worldview is to Christianity.  Take “self esteem” for example and compare the secular promotion of it with Christ’s clear teaching on humility and meekness. (Romans 12.3, Philippians 2.3)

Romans 5: Entry into grace by faith

Sin came into the world via Adam, but while we were still sinners Christ’s sacrifice reconciled us to God.  Grace, accessed by faith, produces a hope that’s matured and enhanced by temporal sufferings.

The sad (happy) face of the commercial church

The success of a contemporary evangelical church is often measured purely by growth. This tends towards the adoption of seeker/society friendly worship and teaching that is reduced to mere moralistic therapeutic deism.

Matthew 5: The beatitudes & sermon on the mount

Christ gives a new perspective on our obligation to strive for a godly nature.  Mosaic law tended to express godliness via physical, ‘external’ restrictions whereas ‘Christ enabled’ inward conformity makes external restrictions redundant.

(The Sermon on the Mount is impossible to summarize, especially in only 33 words, please take this opportunity to read it in it’s entirety here)
